Matrix
Hot glass, June 2011, blown by Simon Moore and James Devereux

This is one of series, a development of my research into the way
the brain makes sense of the information it receives from the eye.
One widely-held theory relates to the Gestalt notion that we seek out
connections between line, tone and movement to fit with our model or
matrix of the world and our place in it. Many optical illusions play
with this mechanism, setting up and then confounding assumptions about
relationships to create a sensation of movement. In these objects,
multiple matrices of tiny encapsulated bubbles appear to converge and
'make sense' when seen from one angle, but disintegrate into an
apparently random muddle when seen from another.
