Iris 1
Hot glass, ceramic
transfer print, etched copper, blown by Jim Maskrey 2006
This piece represents the interplay between the different transport
systems within the eye: in a first stage, a ceramic transfer
print of my own retina was wrapped around a heart-shaped void.
This was allowed to cool before the second gather, in which the
piece was wrapped in a sheet of copper etched with a map of the
route between my home in Bristol and Sunderland, where the piece
was made.
I then cut a concave lense in the base before cutting the piece
in half and polishing these exposed surfaces by hand.
